Bandwidth Carrier power and UPS

I intentionally wanted to bring this question offline so as not to toss stones at those providers who had power issues today.

I saw in a few threads today reports/excuses of upstream bandwidth providers being out of power today. It is my expectation that any upstream carrier I would be doing business with would provide a significant amount of power protection for their datacenters/equipment such that I would never expect have a circuit down due to power issues. Am I missing something here?

The threads seem to indicate "it doesn't really matter that we were down....all our providers were anyway" just doesn't seem right to me.

What threads did you see excuses in? It appears to me that the stories are still developing.

I think that's bull. When Alchemy came back up all of my servers had rebooted, meaning there was a power loss.

If bandwidth carriers were really that lame, then why would any data center bother with backup generators?
