My DNS works, then it doesn't work, then it works, etc...

I'm pulling my hair out and if someone could help me, I'd be eternally grateful. I'm using cPanel/WHM to administor my server, hosted at dedicatednow.com.

A *few* of my domains on the server -- not all -- just disappear from the internet every few days, for a few days at a time.

Example:

tandemcomputers.net
trinityag.us

Right now, both of those domains come up as NOT FOUND to me when I try to access them. About 7 hours ago, they worked, with NO changes on my part whatsoever. They've been up for about 8 days, since they last did this to me. Just would vanish, not be able to be accessed, except by IP address.

Now the most frustrating part is, I'm doing nothing. They are set up correctly with my registrar, and they are set up, as far as I know, correctly, on the server -- I say as far as I know since cPanel is the one setting it up and I'm not having problems with any other domains on the same box.

My parents, on a different internet provider and miles away, can access these domains fine. My friend, two states over from me, and on a different ISP than me or my parents, cannot.

What's going on?!

It is really a very odd behaviour. Parent nameservers publishes A records for your nameservers ns1.knoxhosting.com. and ns2.knoxhosting.com. but some softwares cannot reach A records of these nameservers when looking for trinityag.us. Please contact with support of the company where you had registered these domains.

And another issue about your domain knoxhosting.com. is that you have a wrong NS record for this domain. Please delete ns2.afraid.org. for this domain from your NS records at parent servers.

I am really interested about this problem. I have queried parent nameservers and tried something else; but it is very odd that sometimes it cannot find A records for your nameservers. If I can figure out something, I will write again and if you can find something, please share it.

I found missing thing.

.biz tld servers (parent servers) does not provide any NS records for your domain trinityag.us but they only publish authority record. This causes the problems. Please contact with your registrar. They should solve this issue. Parent servers need to publish NS records for your domains.

I looked for only trinityag.us and didn't see any problems with tandemcomputers.net but I am not sure. You may query tld servers from your computer. It would be very interesting if some tld servers have wrong records about this domain too...

Please share the news with us.

Oooov, .biz tld servers are really odd. I couldn't understand why they behave like that but they sometimes give out NS records and sometimes not.

I will continue to my researches. (:

I contacted my registrar and am still waiting a response. the ns2.afraid.org was my attempt to stop this from happening by using an off-site dns record backup, but it doesn't seem to have helped, or even worked the way I thought it would.

My registrar is namecheap.com, has anyone else had problems with them? I've used them for over two years now, but am not sure if I'll continue if it turns out to be a problem on their end.

My registrar said the problem is my end, but my nameservers aren't showing up anywhere; since I registered my nameservers through them, wouldn't it be something ThEY can help me with?!

Please look at this post too:

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...hreadid=441149

Read what I and Devil Inside suggested. There maybe a problem at your end.

I tried some other .us domains and saw that they are all the same as yours at the parent servers. biz parent servers once send A record and then don't; but that domains are working without problems. So it is at your end as namecheap stated.

Try what Devil Inside suggested at the post I have given the link of. I hope it will solve your problem...

Lastly, I have worked with namecheap but didn't have any problems. They are a reseller of enom.

Please inform us after taking action about Devil Inside's suggestion.

I shouldn't work at nights. I had queried all tld servers; but not your own ones. I am as odd as .biz tld servers.

When I ask you adomain.com, your server needs to send me additional records. These should include A records for all your nameservers. Your nameserver doesn't publish these A records. Changing this will probably solve your problem.

Look at this page:
http://network-tools.com/nslook/Defa...o.x=25&go.y=16

The records of your domain should be like the one on this page:
http://network-tools.com/nslook/Defa...&go.x=0&go.y=0

These are query results of your domain from directly your nameserver and my domain from directly my nameserver. I think it will help... Sorry for my sleepy ideas at the posts above.

I have some more information if people can continue to help me on this. All day today, all my sites suddenly worked again, EXCEPT for the domain that is the same as my nameservers, knoxhosting.com

NOW, sometime in the last 40-50 minutes, they all stopped working again, EXCEPT knoxhosting.com is BACK UP and working.

I've done NOTHING to these domains in months and I just want to know why this is happening. I'm about to just cancel this server and give up on dedicated hosting. I like the control, but problems like this make it totally unenjoyable.

So, two days ago, all domains on alpha.knoxhosting.com stopped working except knoxhosting.com. The nameservers are ns1&2.knoxhosting.com. Today, all domains STARTED working except knoxhosting.com. Now tonight, they all are down again except knoxhosting.com.

Anyone one have any friggen clue what's going on here!?!

Check out the wonderful dnsstuff.com for the answer to your problems:

ns2.afraid.org [204.11.167.30] [Broken DNS server: Reports a server failure] 358ms

http://dnsstuff.com/tools/traversal....ing.com&type=A

To use dnsstuff.com from their home page, put the hostname you want to resolve (knoxhosting.com) into the field at the top of the right column. When you get an answer, click on "Click here" at the bottom.

In summary, the answer is that ns2.afraid.org, one of knoxhosting.com's nameservers, doesn't know about knoxhosting.com - probably not defined or setup in Named.

If it's intermittent, my guess is there's something wrong with ns2.afraid.org, simple as that. Every time a domain fails, go to www.dnsstuff.com and check it out and you'll see exactly what isn't working.
