ev1servers.net or theplanet.com
The biggest datacenters that I have heard of as of yet are ev1servers.net, and theplanet.com. Which is better? Which offers better support? Which servers are more relialable. Which one is going to be up, stay up, and be up with no problem. Also is there any other data center that you would recommend?

In my experience with ev1 they have excellent support, excellent uptime and are completely reliable. I had maybe 1-2 tickets for them in the 2 years renting from them, they were both solved within an hour.

I would look at servint, I know that wasnt one of your choices but its like going to a Big 10 school at the other places, your just another number or email address, at servint, I like to think of everyone has family sometimes when you have a question Reed, the owner, will answer it personally. Sure they dont have the lowest prices but support makes up for it, as I havent been on this forum in a while and I dont know if its been announced but Reed has something up his sleeve as far as new services, on the VPS and server end.

EV1 is awesome. I haven`t been with theplanet and they are known to be very good but EV1 has always been great for me. Never seen a second of network related downtime in months, reboot requests are answered within 5 minutes, you can get hold of them via live support chat etc. It`s perfect.

I have been with both two years or more and prefer ev1, support is a bit better and they seem to have MUCH better communcations with customers when and issue happens and I often see them looking to take care of issues which may come up down the road BEFORE something actually happens.
Both are pretty good but my suggestion would be EV1 well worth a little extra cash.

flip a coin. They are very much the same and the differances are to small to even mention.
I think this is something that these two companies should look at and stop being the Pepsi & Coke of the hosting industry.

Ev1.net have a superb DoS protection - it's helps a lot today. It's stop 100Mbps incoming DoS in matter of few minutes - never seen better protection.

I disagree, I read more threads about people not liking theplanet then I do about people not liking EV1. Actually I can't recall the last time someone posted a negative thought about EV1. Being a customer of both, I would say EV1 beats ThePlanet big time. ThePlanet seems to care about $$$ whereas EV1 seems to care about the customer.

Not to get off topic but I think the reason that EV1 users prefer it is the culture. EV1 and Robert Marsh create a culture around there services where thePlanet does not. Does EV1 have people that are unhappy? of course they do and I am sure it is not much different then thePlanet. It's just how the culture reacts when things happens. EV1 customers go to there own forums where thePlanet users come here so it is much more obvious when there are issues with thePlanet then with EV1.

I would say ev1. Gary was talking about the difference in the forums, take a look at the ev1 forums and you will see they do very little censoring at all. On a very rare occasion they will lock a thread that gets beaten to death but not without it taking awhile. They let people talk about their problems and discuss it. They also have a few emails setup so that customers can contact management if they have an issue they feel has not been handled properly.
Aside from that ev1 also has a pretty good network and power system...TP/SM has had quiet a few problems with both in the past and have a pretty bad habit of waiting way too long to get a new internet pipe when they need it.
