I just called dell to place an order. At the very end of the order I asked the women "If I decide to return the computer for a refund if the computer is defective when I receive it or whanot... will I be refunded the $100 shipping & handling fee?".
She suddenly becomes very rude and says "Well, in that case if you are thinking that you will be sending the computer back then I prefer you order online. This is how I make my money and if you return the computer I lose money". She then proceeded to hang up the phone!!!
What a bloody b*tch and how rude!!!
She was so sweet and nice the whole time, then I asked that question and she becomes psychotic. I wish I had gotten her name. I decided I will NOT be ordering anything from dell. Not the first incidence like this from dell I've experienced.

Wow, that lady was crazy. You didn't even say you were going to return the computer - only if it was defective which is what ANYONE would do.
She was an idiot and deserved to lose your business.
Although I must say I am very happy with my new Dell notebook.

Wow. That's pretty bad. Did you experience another person on the phone like that before?
Kind of dumb of her to act like that. She could have at least had a chance of making a commission but she has no chance now.

Wow - Did you get her name - If so call back get a supervisor and report her, shame if this is how their front line is - tell them such representation is not acceptable and your considering taking your business elsewhere.
EDIT After rereading your post looks like you made the your decision , still report her, she doesnt deserve a job within customer service

I love Dell myself, bought 3 computers from them so far. That said, I noticed they aren't so good when you call them. Both for support and sales. Thankfully all 3 computers have been rock solid and I didn't require much support.

I wish I had gotten her name. After she hung up I sat here scratching my head thinking... "What the heck just happened?". Nutcase
Yep, she literally slammed the phone down when I asked that question... and I'm like "Hello?"...
I'll stick with my HP.

That's pretty crazy. Why would she lose money if the comptuer is defective? She's not building the computer.
Kind of dumb to act like that. By saying that, she's pretty much saying "ohh well, the computer is bound to be defective, i better save my own neck and tell her that she should order online."

You got the tile wrong ... It should read, "Somebody at Dell is disgusting ...".
I love Dell servers. I hate some of their sales people.

I was going to order 5 servers from dell the a couple weeks, but they would not give me totals, they just wanted to put it on my account! I knew the general idea on totals, as I know amount I had available in my account balance, but I asked for a quote like sheet for verification, and I never got anything but the paperwork to sign, I replied asking for it (via email now, prior was phone), still no reply. I decided I would buy elsewhere if I can't get total figures.

In response to the title (Dell is disgusting) I say, you aren't supposed to eat the computer.

This is one of many reasons why I don't buy dell computers anymore. And I mainly buy Powerspec and build custom servers.

If I were you, I would just go with a new computer company. Try CompUSA. Try buying a computer from the store...not online.
I think the sale person would be much nicer in person, and answer your question in a calmer way.
One question though:
Do dell's employee make extra payment when a computer is sold...in compare to what the payment would be if the computer wasn't sold? IF she wasn't going to get money, I am sure she still wouldn't be working with them.
If that is the case...didn't she just lose money when she lose you as a customer?

In defense of this woman, it shows the pressure she must be under to make the sale. I can't speak for dell, but their staff "may" work under a retainer + commission. That is a VERY difficult situation to work under. Or they work under a minimum wage, and their bonuses from sales make it worthwhile for them. Of course, I am speculating on this.
And in all reality, you just never know. She could have had a bast@^d customer on the previous call, and this question made her snap. Most of the people on this forum work in the service industry as part of our companies, and we know how difficult things can be. I'd give her the benefit of the doubt in this case.
