Hey guys, its been a while since I last posted, but I hope people are still just as friendly. I'm with Mav-hosting.com and we're mainly in the game server business. We've taken over a few clients from a few over night companies in the past two weeks so right now I'm looking to change a few things and a few providers. It seems that people aren't really interested in each coast or west coast nowadays so it seems like a good idea to get rid of those locations. This means I'm going to have to expand my TX and Chicago locations. For TX I'm more than happy with them and have no problems. For Chicago, I'm with gowebman.com and I'm having the worst experience of my life! They don't take care of a box when it goes down for hours. Basically, bottom line is that it's more trouble than it's worth. Right now I'm looking for a provider with a good network in the Chicago area with excellent pings and good prices. I'm mainly looking at Server Central, their network is top notch, but their prices are pretty high, does anybody know a reseller for them of some sort?
I already know about steadfast networks, but their pings aren't the greatest. Any other provider you can recommend?
I am with steadfast now with a gameserver company and I could not be happier, their mix of level 3 and savvis is quite good. I would highly recommend them. plus they are just a good bunch of guys and good support system.
side note: I have several servers with euro players and they receive 95-105 ping consistently from the chicago based servers in steadfast. Their value network may not give the best pings but then again thats why it is a value network for quantity over quality

Our pings aren't the greatest? The only real issues we are aware of are with AT&T, but we are adding ATT transit shortly. As a note, don't use a ping of our web server as a basis, that system is generally quite busy, has different filtering and is on a different switch than the rest of the network. Right now, our web server actually has different routing than the main part of our network as well, so definitely don't use that for traces/pings.
You can use 126.96.36.199 for pings/traces.

I got a 33 ms response time from pinging Steadfast Networks, and I'm in Maryland.
Also I have a VPS at Steadfast Networks, and I get great transfer speeds. I also have a Vent and Teamspeak server on that VPS along with a bunch of websites and there is almost no lag on the vent or Teamspeak servers.
I don't know of any other big chicago providers... well at least I can't think of any at the moment.
Edit: JLevine, I am sure that there are source/1.6 servers at Steadfast, since Chicago is a very popular place for game servers, and clans with minimal experience with Linux usually like Management.
I get around 40-60 at a server in Chicago (but I think it is on a crappy network, not Steadfast).
In comparison, I get around 10 at servers in Virginia (I live in Maryland).
But I also have 15 megabits download on my internet connection speed so that could have something to do with it
I get below 25ms from toronto to steadfast so I think they got a pretty good network plus most people in NY and what not also ping like that so its quite good for gameservers. Infact we just got a machine there and we're quite impressed with it's ping times for gameservers

I think AOWC network is fine they must just stack the hell out of their machines, everytime I jump in unreal I can pick out an AOWC server a mile away....hey my ping is spiking to 300.....welcome to an AOWC server! if you are going to get a gameserver, go to the good ones like defconservers or fragism, they cost a touch more but are well worth it
Originally posted by antonym66 AOWC doesnt even tell you what network they are at, they dont disclose that information. Stupid if you ask me, but x-gaming probably has connections and all that so he knows
It's not hard to find out if you know where to look.
