AMD Athlon 64 2800+ vs Barton 3000+

Hey guys I need your help to choose a server.
AMD Athlon 64 2800+
1GB RAM
64-Bit CentOS

is much faster than
Barton 3000+
1GB RAM

or differences are not visible in web production?

Server with Athlon 64 is a little expensive than Barton 3000+.

Thanks

The 64-bit CPU has spome enhancements that will be good for you running a server - especially the memory hypertransport link that the barton doesn't have.

The 64-bit OS may also give you some benefits, but I think all in all, you won't see much difference.

Thanks gbjbaanb. I'm waiting more opinions especially from someone that used 64-Bit CentOS on AMD Athlon 64.

I've not used 64-bit CentOS, but I have used 64-bit Debian (on my home development machine, not on any production servers yet) and all I can say is that it's *blistering* fast.

We are using both, AMD Barton 3000+/1GB ram/CentOS and AMD64 3200/1GB ram/CentOS64. We noticed that AMD64 performs better in high load, and SQL intensive hosting.
