I've just bought a VPS with Spry and am trying to get it all working. I think I'll be using my own dns servers such as ns1.mydomain.co.uk and ns2.mydomain.co.uk. mydomain.co.uk is currently registered with UKReg so I went to update the nameserver records but it won't let me enter an IP address - it says I have to enter a host name. What host name can I use?
I would check with UKreg..each registrar is different on how to setup custom nameservers..but there should be a section for it where you enter your nameservers based on the domain name and the IPs associated with each of them.
This *&£^$ forum won't let me post URLs until I have 5 posts but the ukreg/fasthosts support site says
Glue records are the equivalent of gTLD host records, for .uk domains. The glue record is used to identify the nameservers on which a .uk domain name is held. To maintain your own name server, or to use Fasthosts Personal DNS service, you must create name server glue records.
Just chiming in here, but if spry offer DNS hosting (most hosting companies do) consider using them as your secondary/slave DNS. It is not ideal to be running all your name servers from the same box that the name servers are pointing records at.
