I donít know if this a right forum to post this kind of question and if its not i`m sorry for that.
I need help with awstats. I have IIS 6.0 on win2k3 and i just installed awstats. I followed all the installation instructions, modified all the configuration files but I canít built/update the awstats database.
When I type in CLI 'awstats.pl -config=virtualnamehere -update' instead of getting output on the screen, the content of awstats.pl opens. What is wrong with that ? I went through configuration steps many times to check if i haven't made any mistakes and everything looks good to me but still awstats.pl doesn't work.
Perl is also working because I created small script and accessed that script through the web and it was working fine.
I figured out the problem i had before. It was that windows somehow manage to open files with .pl extension in notpad, so i changed that to perl.exe and now it reads the file as perl.
Still i have a problem. The problem is that when i type 'awstats.pl -configure=name -update' or 'perl awstats.pl -configure=name -update'
i get same thing as i would type awstats.pl -h(help) instead of having the script run with options -configure and -update. I have checked many times my spelling and the options. I dont know where to look for an error and this win2k3 is really pissing me off.
Yes, it is possible to use asp pages in linux, but if you are running linux, why not just use php? (php is quite similar in style to asp). There is also a ton of help on hotscripts.com regarding asp.
If awstats is still giving you trouble, it is possible to download your server logs and run awstats on your own pc. It may be a efw extra steps, but if you automate it with a small script it may be better than burning your brain to figure out the config. Although I didn't mention it earlier, http://gostats.com is a tool which will make your stats collection easier.
If you want, feel free to msg me or email me some more specifics, maybe I can help you out if I take a look at the whole picture. Although, sometimes a quick question I ask is, what do you intend to do with awstats? (maybe there is an easier way)
I ask about .asp on linux cause right now i have 20 sites in .asp on IIS. I`m moving to php/mysql but its impossible to convert all the sites at once, but thats the ultimate goal to have verything in php.
In the meantime i would like to have some information about traffic on IIS because right now there is no web statistics program at all. I didnt look around too much for web stats programs. I knew about webalizer and awstat and thats why i got that. I can check out gostats too, maybe i can get this one to work.
