what can I get for $1000/mo?

I was wonderring what offer can I get (colocation only for somebody eles that needs this done soon) for $1000/mo? I got some quotes from WorldCom, InterNAP, MFN (used to be above), and still some others. They basically have around 1.5mbps and half-full secure cabinet for $1000-$1500/mo. Not really that great in price ...

So today, I visited NYI.net. The price, for around $680/mo will give me 8U of pace, 1000 watts of power, 1 mbps burstable to 3mbps (90th percentile at $420/mbps). Now this price does seem to be more reasonable. I have searched the board, not really too many people (customers only, not hosts) give any sort of experience with NYI.net, so again let me ask you guys one more time: Any good/bad experience with NYI.net?

I am still waiting quotes from other companies, but what I get for around $1000/mo if I need jut 8-10U of rackspace and as much bandwith as possible, burstable to at least 5 mbps (10 or 100 mbps will be better)? Please, no cogent as primary bandwith (backup may be fine); will only choose multi-homed solution (must have Tier1 provider in the list). 24/7 support is needed and reasonably high uptime (>99.9%) is required. Please contact me directly or post your offer here.

cheers,

No, I haven't tried quest. But if I go directly with quest (or Level3, WorldCom, etc) I will not have the redundancy (multi-homed) that I like to have, will I?

BTW, thank you for those who have emailed me your offer. I will expect to get more offers and look into these offers individually and reply you later with further inquieries or decisions.

cheers,

Qwest, UUNet, and MFN aren't exactly what I'd call multihomed. Its much better imho to go with a webhost that has multiple connections to tier 1 providers. That way if they'res a peering squablle your customers don't suffer from it.

exactly tetra, that's why I was not too interested about the offers I got from MFN and WorldCom. I was just very surprised to know that MFN has dropped their badwith price by around 40% per mbps, and worldcom starts to consider small business. But anyway, multi-homed is what I prefer. Location does not really matter though I would like to be around NJ, NY, CT, MA area (withing my driving distance).

cheers,

Have you looked at Inflow? I know RackMY uses them, and they seem to have termination from a lot of providers (http://www.inflow.com).

I think NAC and Burst are also close up there. Inflow has places all around. I think VDI might be up there but you arleady know that.

The last time I know, inflow is way to expensive per mbps (and it's at 95th percentile too). And yes, NAC is pretty darn good (I have a server there a very-very little downtime and if there is any, only few minutes), but even if I go through pwebtech, NAC is still expensive (forgot the bandwith price per mbps on 95th).

So nobody can give any comment on NYI? I am leaning towards NYI now.

Inflow also offers BW on average billing.

Wink Internap

I suggest internap - they are good. Actually I do not remember where, but lately there was a nice article about their service..

(ohh, did I say I get 10k for each referral!? oh.. I am just kidding you fools!)

ps. you may consider inflow as well. Both are nice providers and offer high quality bandwidth. You pay what you get.

thx

Try Host Remote.net They have a nice facility. They are in New Jersey and have reasonable prices for the area.

Ask for Joe.

The bandwidth was good, and the quality of the networks was really good, but their network infrastructure had some problems. We had a couple of outages that should not have happened because of misconfigured routers. Their support was always very responsive during these outages though. It has also been almost a year, so I am sure their network has improved since we were there.

Price is another issue. We had great pricing, but a couple of people I sent their way got pricing that was a lot higher than ours, and there did not seem to be any consistency.

Again, that situation may have improved, I would give them a call to find out.

I got a quote from Internap (NYC): 1.5 Mbps (95th) and half rack at $1500/mo. I like Internap too, but at $1500/mo I do expect to get more bandwith than that (and I only need 8-10U, btw). NYI can get me 3 mbps (burstable to 6, will ask them if they will get me burstable to 10) with 1/4 rack for about the same price (And guess what, mont to month contract). The most I can spend is $1500/mo, hm ... can I get 10mbps on this? I know that I can get this through somebody at layerone (buy bandwith direct from GC/Verizon/Epik), but then I am kinda worry about their support ... Otherwise, I will just jumped in.

RackMy, I never knew that inflow will do average billing. I have heard good things about inflow, will check them later. But if you can offer better deal than them, why not give me a shoot

Attention to MOD: please move this thread to Offers forum since I too want to see some people post their offers here without breaking the forum rule.

cheers,
