    Longhorn's official name

Apparently, the new name for Microsoft's next operating system will be Vista.

    Seriously, Vista?!

I'd much rather Longhorn, but that's never going to happen.

Sorry I haven't been reading much about Longhorn, what new features does it bring to the table?

    Vista? VISTA? VISTA???
Jeese... and I thought XP was bad. Longhorn sounds cool though, they'd be better to keep that.

As far as what new features, most of what I hear is that longhorn will be trying to integrate your PC into your home (media center, gaming etc). Typical Microsoft Monopoly

Microsoft has announced, however, that Longhorn, or "Vista" will be doing away with the "My's". My Documents will just be Documents, the same with My Pictures, My Music, My Videos, etc... uhmmmm I don't know why this is important, but apparently Microsoft thinks it is.

Vista? What a God-awful name. Whoever's in charge of branding at Microsoft needs to be fired.

Now I think about it and my first impression of the name is it sounds / reminds me too much of AltaVista or 'asta la vista . . baby'

    That was my first impression.

The Department of Veterans affairs uses a computer system called "VISTA". It's an acronym for something, but I don't remember what. It is a text and menu system.

There is no way, Microsoft would choose that, they are very liable for a lawsuit IMO. Source isn't reliable, just my 2 cents.

It isn't worth it b/c of ICANN rules. For example, Google & eBay, won suits where even the trademarked name + anything = belongs to 'trademarker'/ company that owns it.

So for example vistaforum.com got big, MS would just take it over.

Yeah, right. Recently, typos like googkle.com, googlke.com etc were acquired by Google after they sent some Russian who originally owned it. He was suspected of infecting visitors with spyware, digusing it to be coming from google !

I personally dislike the name also. Longhorn is a much better name than Vista and they should stick with that.

I guess Vista does mean view which is what you get when you look out a window but it's still kind of dorky. Maybe the people at Microsoft didn't want to alienate Texas A&M users if they kept the name Longhorn.

    That was the Xbox360.

Anyway for the people who were having doubts, the new name is unfortunately Vista.

I guess I am in the minority, but I believe Windows Vista is a better name than the codename “Longhorn”. Maybe people dislike it now because it is new and a change from what they were used to calling it.
