Windows Dedicated - SQL Server?
On a casual / part-time basis I've supplied a couple of *nix dedicated servers to local businesses.
One is now asking for a Windows-based server, and they also need SQL server.
Is SQL Server 'bundled' with, say, Server 2003? Or will that be an add-on to the base server?
And, following on from that, generally speaking would their current SQL database(s) work on a *nix server? ie, is MS SQL compatible with MySQL?
Generally a SQL license costs upwards of $200/month. MS SQL is not available on Linux, and it's totally different from mySQL.
It will be quite costly, I can tell you even on SPLA a sql server standard license per proc is close to $200/mo
or under the sal model you are still looking at 7-10 per subscriber license....
it may just be more cost effective for your customer to purchase a sql server license
Thanks for your info and advice .. it's appreciated!
