Can you recommend a (type of) server/host for my needs?

Here is the deal, my site is currently on a cheap Dreamhost shared server. I like them, but apparently though dont like me because my site is eating all of the servers resources. They've moved me to an evaluation server so my site doesnt hinder others on the server, and so I can monitor my usage and consider other hosting options. They've been sending me usage reports every day, and this is pretty much what they look like:

Process CPU seconds user machine count average
    php.cgi 75220.2800 99.847% 313.418% 77901 0.966 114.6200 0.152% 0.478% 42 2.729
    perl 0.1600 0.000% 0.001% 2 0.080
    sendmail 0.1100 0.000% 0.000% 148 0.001
    postdrop 0.0300 0.000% 0.000% 148 0.000
    bash 0.0300 0.000% 0.000% 1 0.030
    wget 0.0100 0.000% 0.000% 1 0.010
    sh 0.0000 0.000% 0.000% 24 0.000
    sh 0.0000 0.000% 0.000% 66 0.000
    Total: 75335.2400 100.000% 313.897% 78333
Average per day: 75335.2400 1 days
CPU percentage assumes 24000 cpu seconds per day total.
So thats about 1,200 cpu minutes, and they told me the largest of sites on a shared server shouldnt use more than 30-40 minutes a day. I dont understand why the usage is so high... I'm only running WordPress and phpBB (the usage is probably 95% wordpress, and 5% phpbb).

Granted, this is mostly a usage spike from being linked to from all over the net, but I'm settling out at about 40,000 page views a day (and peak at about a quarter million page views), and about 170GB bw a month.

Can anyone recommend what type of service I should be looking into? My site is just starting out, and I want room to grow, and not have to worry about the slashdot effect in the future.

Budget doesn't matter. I just need to know what kind of server I need to run my site, while not being overkill. Basically the cheapest thing I can get that will meet my needs

Well i would be guessing a decent P4, Or a AMD Athlon 2800.
With atleast 512MB of ram (1024MB recomended)

Or even better a Dual CPU server.
But then again that may not be needed and could increase the overal cost.

a low p4 with a 100mbps uplink (not unmetered) and 1gb of ram should do fine.
