Dedicated Game Server

If i get a server like this:

Intel P4 2.4 GHz
1 GB RAM - (2) 80GB Hard Drives
1400 GB Monthly Transfer

How many game servers could it hold running smoothly, hopefully with very little lag. Without going over the monthly transfer limit.

Any information would be nice.

Thanks,
Skunk

Even with BF2, I doubt you could transfer that much. If this is for GSP use, single-proc is not cost-effective.

That box would probably hold a good amount of servers... of course every sever is different. The Source engine servers take up alot of CPU, while the Americas Army server takes up a very small amount of CPU.
Like X-Gaming said, more info is needed.

I would mainly run:

Mainly
Counter-Strike 1.6
Counter-Strike Source
Battlefield 2
DODource (When released)

Others
Call of Duty
COD United Defense
Quake 3 (Maybe)

I know i will need a bigger servers to host alot of these games. I am thinging of starting a game server company. I though i would need a

Intel Dual Xeon 3.2 GHz
2 GB RAM - (2) 73GB SCSI Hard Drives
2500 GB Monthly Transfer

But I want to start off small and work up so how many games do you think the server can hadle if i ran:

Server

Intel P4 2.4 GHz
1 GB RAM - (2) 80GB Hard Drives
1400 GB Monthly Transfer

Other Info

Countertirke Source and Counter-Strike 1.6 with a high tickrate of about 400 (-tickrate 400). I think that the tickrate uses more bandwith so if anyone knows then help me please.

The Question????
How many servers can i run on the server with out going over the bandwith or the servers have no lag???

Any Help would be nice. Please.

Thank You,

Skunk

Well thats quite an assortment of servers.

Quick guess? 3 of the COD/Quake based servers.

BF2? One server.

My advice? If you want to start a Game server company forget about the servers until later. Get yourself a business plan and a few bucks in your pocket for things like a website, billing software, support desks, staff, licensing fees, then worry about how many kb's per player CS uses..

Reason I say this is because you need to ask yourself if you really think you can stand a chance in the game serving business with nothing to back you up.
