Domain Value

I just bought a domain name and am wondering
the value. I am not going to say the exact name,
but it does include hyphens. Without the hyphens
it would sell VERY HIGH. Here is an example of how
the domain name would look, but of course it's a
completely different name: b-u-s-i-n-e-s-s.com
I only paid $10, so if hyphen domains like that are
not worth alot, at least I'm not losing too much.
Anyone know how well great names with hyphens
like that would sell? Also, does anyone know of any
websites where I can learn about the business of
selling domain names? Thanks All!

Personally, I don't think they're worth much. People hardly like domain names with one "-" in them. Also with lots of hyphens, the domain name gets almost twice as long which also reduces its value.

I have a domain I'd like to sell as well, although I was contacted about it by the interested party, so that takes a bit of the 'looking for a buyer' out of it. It is really impossible to know what it is worth, as the only thing it is really worth is the exact amount someone else is willing to pay for it. I suppose it is similar to a fine art painting (most only 'worth' $40 in materials).

As for common places to sell them, ebay, afternic.com, greatdomains.com, and others.

I wouldn't put much stock in those domain-value appraisal services either by the way. No matter what someone's opinion of your domain's worth, again, the only thing it is really worth is the exact amount someone else is willing to pay for it.

I even know this and asked recently for my domain, however, as I said, I was contacted by someone who asked, "How much are you asking for it?" -so I was more looking for advice as to what I should reply back with.

Good luck! If you strike it big, remember the little chickens!

I also have a domain name that some interested parties contacted. Whenever I told them my expectation, they never replied

But it's worth keeping you never know

Another one contacted for yet another domain and told me that he is willing to pay three times I paid my registrar

Well, if you think of it, that's a pretty good markup. I think you can make some decent money selling semi-decent names for $50-$100, rather than trying to make it rich off of one. If you make even $25 for doing very little, that ain't bad.

We all know it would be really nice to make
"LOTS" of money off a domain name. Even
if I made $25 off of it, I would be happy!!!
But that doesn't mean I'm gonna give it
away either. I think it's really fun just picking
domain names and I may even have to check
out that "12 Step Domain Program" pretty
soon here. I've bought 6 domains for
my PERSONAL Sites in last couple of weeks &
plan on buying more this week. By the way,
does anyone have a good "MULTI Domain"
hosting plan available??? It just makes sense,
that if your in the hosting business, selling
domains would be a fun and "little extra $$$
on the side" venture to pursue.

I love domain names and have about 140 or so.

Have a reseller plan with Voxtreme to have them all up on display with their own little mini-sites, and you wouldn't believe the amount of traffic I get from people just typing in the names.

Been fortunate lately with a couple of sales - great stuff.

Lats...

I bought a domain for my web design biz and was offered $50 for it, I thought about it and was gonna sell, but I decided to keep it, cause it's not so easy to get good .com's these days.

The guy emailed me back and offered $100 for it, and that really had me thinking, but in the end I decided to keep it.

So I don't think you have much chance of making $$$$ from selling domains, but you can get $100 for a pretty good one easily.

I still don't know whether I made the right decision, I could've made $85 profit....but I wasn't sure I'd get another .com that would be any good.
