I am very new to subversion and CVS in general. I have successfull installed subversion but I am having some trouble understanding the repository creation process.

I have the book and have done 2 days of research but somehow the idea is escaping me.

Here is what I did:

1. create a repository

svnadmin create --fs-type fsfs /srv/svn/repositories/svntest

The book says that I need to have a predefined directory layout setup exactly as you want your repository to look.

What exactly does this mean? If my code is in /home/username/public_html/ other_directories does this mean I have to mimic the souce directory tree in the repository project folder?? I am really confused!

Then it tells me to import the code:

svn import -m "Initial import." \
[/path/to/source/tree] \

This gives me an error that the folder to the source tree does not exist! THe folder obviously exists because I am running the website from there. So I created the mimic public_html folder in the repository project folder, still got an error.

Where am I confused?? HELP!
