Ganymede is one of the moons of Jupiter. They say it has a mantle of ice, and a crust of ice and rock. It strikes me as something different.

Looks more like a covering of solid ice thats been hit many times by rocks, thus creating shatter zones like you would see in glass if a pebble hit it hard, or maybe like a snowball splatter. Thats how it looks to me in the second picture.

In the first picture, I see this even more. It looks like land and oceans, but covered with an extremely thick layer of ice. Even much so, that it looks like what looks like florida was hit by a big enough rock to shatter the frozen lands under the ice. It has that dulled look like land under ice does.. the impact marks look like what I described above..
