email your congressman and senator on the chineese bid on unocal

time to email your representatives and tell them that you will not vote for them if they approve this buyout. this would be a major mistake for our country to allow a foreign government ( yes that company over there is backed and run by the governement) to buy such a large company here with reserves so strategic to our country.

they dont let us buy their companies any way - so why should we - reciprocty.

    Its all economics....

If you have money, you can virtually buy anything...

I can buy WHT, Microsoft, or anything I wanted.... if I have enough money that is!

    Peace,

We're at war with China? I know we're hostile but hardly at war.

Cafe Manager: Free lunch? Did you read the fine print stating it was an April Fool's joke.
Patron: I read the same way I listen, I ignore the parts I don't agree with. I'm suing you for false advertising.

I agree with Jeff on this one. This is a bad deal. Then again, I thought (still think) the IBM/Lenovo deal was bad.

I don't think this purchase has anything to do with the current conflict but it is disturbing from a long term strategic standpoint. As China emerges as an economy it is being fueled by a demand for large demand for oil. Right now many of the oil producing countries are at capacity in terms of pulling oil out of the ground and are doing very little to improve or add to their infrastructure. Demand is increasing while supply is remaining relatively constant.

I'm certain there are those that are happy with this phenomenom but, realistically, there is going to be competition for this resource and having China control oil production in our backyard is not the best of options. Nations, in the end, act to protect their interests and our interests are not the same as those of China.

Even without China controlling an oil company that get oil from the Gulf the coming years will see rising oil prices. I wonder what will happen if they start diverting oil to their country that was coming to the Americas. It will be interesting to see where this goes politically.

China purchasing Unocal would be a bad idea.
Unocal has technology with military applications.
China is trying to discretely get access to our secrets.

If China is allowed to purchase Unocal, I am certain this will backfire on us in many ways.

here is some more information on that. china is barring foreign control of their steel companies because they say it is strategic to their economy. we shuold adopt their policy and not allow them to own anything that is important to us.
