Smile Looking for a Cheap but good Laptop?

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...784530839&rd=1

Just looking for the best possible laptop atm, i got a budget of £530-£600 but would prefer it to be anything under then £530. The sony viao is the first one i found on ebay and there going fairly cheap but i expect the price to rise above. Is there anything wrong with the viao you feel above?

Also what are the 'Must haves' for a fairly good laptop as i would like it to be quick and good internet access along with being able to play a few decent games.

    Cheers

I'm not sure how well the conversion ratio carries over, but is a Mac an option?

The only problem I can see with the above laptop is that it has a Celeron, which is a lower-end Intel model.

From what I have heard, Sony laptops aren't the best for portability. Meaning that the parts inside will break easily if moved around too much.

I thought the Viao was one of the favourites to have atm, i really like how it looks too.

Any other ideas or links i can look into?

I've got one of the really small Sony VAIOs from a few years ago which has travelled the world, been chucked around in various bags and has still survived! It's never gone wrong once and must be at least 5 years old now.

I'm going to buy another one next month and in all the research I've done recently I've never seen problems with parts breaking like that. Where've you seen that?

I wouldn't worry too much about a Celeron M, they're very good processors. In fact, the main drawback to them over a pentium m is battery life. Performance wise, they're nearly equivalent.

If you got the option to buy the laptop above for less then £500 would you?

I am considering it but the only thing holding me back is i would have prefered a centrino chip

Yeah, Sony Vaio labtops are pretty durable, one of my relitives still has one even though she doesn't really take care of it (Throws it around). Very durable if it can survive her

I bought one off eBay a couple of years ago. It was about half the price of second-hand ones of similar quality I saw at a local store, and it worked fine. I'd prefer to shop locally for a new one, but for a used one, it's a great place to get a good deal. There are lots of used ones on the market.

Centrino's not really a chip. a centrino is a combination of a cpu, motherboard, and wireless adapter (pentium m processor, Intel 855, Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 (IEEE 802.11b) or PRO/Wireless 2200 (IEEE 802.11bg) network adapter).

That's awesome! Thanks for sharing; I might just have to get one soon, myself.

First of all, you're never going to get that thing for "less than £500." Right now, it says "£499", but next to it, notice "Reserve not met." The reserve is probably much higher than £500, but you're certainly not going to get it for less than £500, so don't kid yourself.

Also, as Derek said, Centrino is not a chip, but a combination of parts -- CPU, motherboard, and wireless adapter.

Yeah, the coupon didn't work when I tried to apply it.

Oh well. They have some other specials on now, like $250 off, free shipping, MIRs, etc.

RUN FROM DELL LAPTOPS. STAY FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : / I have a laptop from dell and the AC jack in the back of the laptop broke. They want me to pay $700+ for the motherboard and $110 for the CPU just because the prong on the ac jack is broken. GFG. Its like replacing an engine when the only problem with it is the damn alternator. STAY FARRRRRRRRRRRRRR AWAY!!!

None of those that I looked through were especially good deals, and you only get $50 off systems up to $849, $100 off systems between $850-1,099, etc. Besides, I'd rather have a new laptop if I'm going to get one. Then again, I'm not planning on getting one that soon; I would only consider it if ilyash's deal still existed. My current Thinkpad with a P3 600 and 192 MB RAM will do me just fine, thank you.

Is it easy to setup a wireless connection with your laptop?

I currently have broadband which two people use.

Im using a DELL 700M that I got off of ebay, refurbished but without any problem, go take a look at that one. Centrino processor, make sure you get one with 1gb ram and extended battery and you should be fine.

Yes all you really need are 3 things, 1 of which you already have.

    1) Broadband internet (Cable/DSL or faster)
    2) Wireless router which can be had for USD $19.99 after rebate (USA)
    2) Wireless card, PCI adapter or USB adapter for desktop which is around $19 - $29 for each computer
    What's your budget?

    Seriously, what's your budget?
