How old are the pictures from Google maps?

I am looking at my city area and it looks like it is over 8 years old!

    How "fresh" is google?

That is what I expected. There are some buildings missing that have been build 7 years ago

Satellite photos of the whole world are kind of hard to update regularly

If I remember correctly the origional photos used on Terraserver were actually Russian and sold to them and quite old. Not sure where google gets their new images.

It depends. The whole database is not updated at the same time. I see some photos that are no more than 2-3 years old.

My area shows a housing plan that was just completed about 10 months ago. The plan is fully completed on Google maps.

Wait until Google launches their own satellite. The Google SatBot will crawl daily; it may even be live someday

As others have said, it depends on where you live. In the Seattle area the pictures were taken in June or July of 2003. There was a very particular road project going on that helped to establish that. And around here there are still no maps with any detail a mere 30 miles north of Seattle despite this area becoming quite populated.

What I'd like to know is how often are they planning to update? Every 5 years? 10?
If you have to operate your company behind the scenes or under a fake name, maybe it's time to leave the industry and start something fresh.

Mine are fairly recent, you can see the road behind my house that has only been there for about 9 months...

Most are within 20 years, more are within 10 years, some are within 5 years, and a few I have seen are within 2 years. Not much if any is newer than a year old.

Some areas of google maps are super high quality. Others very low. Check out Racine and Milwaukee Wisconsin. Very high.
