    for a tutorial. By following simple and intuitive steps, you will be able to get a mysql database. But, get a free copy of phpMyadmin from the internet first. It's simple to get it, just type phpmyadmin at the any search engine.

    Thanks.

    Unless it is for a small insignificant project, you really dont want to be using a spreadsheet as a basis for a proper database structure.

    Thanks for your reply.

    Using phpmyadmin does not incur any cost. As there are many commercial software on excel to mysql, I believe there is high demand on this. And, I hope this tutorial helps a lot for those who are looking for a FREE alternative.

    Importing from Excel to Mysql is accually pretty easy, I do it all the time.

    The way to do it is to save your spreadsheet as a .csv file,
    here is a simple sample of the script you can use...

    Code:
    $handle = fopen("myfile.csv", "r");
    while (!feof($handle)) {
      $contents = fread($handle, 8192);
      $col = explode(",", $contents);
      $res = mysql_query("INSERT INTO table (col1, col2) VALUES ( '".$col[1]."', '".$col[2]."' )");
    }
    fclose($handle);
    rocket science is more fun when you accually have rockets!
