    Are these colo prices good/bad?

Just rang the datacentre up in Newcastle,UK. Its just 20 minutes up the road so it would be ideal.

1u space would cost £100 a year, seems very cheap buy hey I'd be happy with that.

Anyway, we got onto talking about bandwidth, and the woman said it was cost about £50-60 a month!!! I said we only used about 10gb at the minute.

Based on that, that seems alot of money a month considering I could get a dedicated server for about the same monthly price and get alot more bandwidth.

Any comments on the bandwidth price?
I found another datacentre further down the country that offered 1u and 20gb bandwidth for around about £10 a month.

I think a company called TSN has a POP in Manchester. Maybe you can get some london style pircing up in the north from them.

  5. Considering its pounds, that sounds like an extremely high space rate.

As for the bandwidth... well what are they quoting 50-60 pounds for? How many Mbps/Kbps or GB/mo

Also, Colo almost always costs more than dedicated... and this post is probably in the wrong section

Ah, nevermind, it's per year... well that actually is a good deal. Eight pounds per month, I would take that offer.

PS: Speaking of highly overpriced bandwidth, don't you love companies who offer you a server with an 80GB hard drive and 10GB/month of bandwidth for $800/month?

This is extremely low cost and would ring warning bells for me.

I've seen higher prices for bandwidth. It also should be remembered that bandwidth can be pretty expensive outside London.

don't you love companies who offer you a server with an 80GB hard drive and 10GB/month of bandwidth for $800/month?
Don't you just love companies who don't base their pricing model solely around the size of hdd and amount of bandwidth? Or do you consider these the only costs to the company providing it (especially when getting into intense management, specialised services, etc, etc)?

£50-60 month for 1mb is about right for colo equipment in the UK dosent matter where you are.
Some hosts may undercut and offer cheaper bandwidth depending on their costs, but at the end of the day it all down to what carriers and network does the 1mb bring with it......

I would say space is extremly Cheap, but bandwidth price is very high. You can check other providers as well and compare the price.

£100/yr for teh space - £8/month - depends on the kind of datacentre, but it's possible - they may be looking to make up any "cost" difference in your b/w

You dont specify what the 50/60 is for - if it's 64kb/s then it's expensive - If it's for 1Mb/s its cheap
