    Tanning

In my goal of turning WHT into a bunch of metrosexuals, I must know, how many of us go tanning?

At this point, I only know of three (including myself), and one is a girl. The other is still in the closet and uses his gym membership only for the tanning beds.

I go tanning, when I'm on my tractor or cutting the grass, or fishing on my boat.

Farmer's tan, what real men have. Dark brown arms, white bellies.

Gyms are for weight training and oggling hot chicks, tanning is for strippers

    Ha, great quote!

I haven't been to a tanning booth in years. I do get a tan playing tennis and sailing, but that's never my first priority..

hehe. That sounds like the Builder's tan. I make it worse by wearing knee straps, and I now have these nice site patches around my knees, with tanned legs.

I go tanning. The exact comment I get from my friends are "You're so metro." But that's not a bad thing. I am what I am.
It's because we're better looking and they're jealous.

I like to lay out side with some tanning lotion and catch some rays...which I plan do in about 20 minutes but I don't go to tanning beds.

If you would even out the white belly with your arm colors you might be able to hook up with one of those hot chicks your ogling at the gym!

Ah the gym mirror...helps you keep your form but more importantly helps you check out hot girls!

I have always had a natural tan, so no need to go tanning nor lay outside in the sun for hours. Although when I do take the opportunity to enjoy the sun, I tan very easily.

I have only ever been sun burnt once, and that happened to be on top of a mountain due to the reflection from the snow.

Tanning beds are really bad for you. It increases your risk for skin cancers, and tanning in general, makes you age a lot worse. You will look a lot older than you are after a while. (You get really wrinkly and disgusting). I suppose you could fix that with a facelift, but then that's really beyond metro. <<< Removed >>>

I think we should take this one step further, lets take the chance while we have it and be as sad as can be! Lets compare tans! Take a photo of your arm, and attempt to be crowned the tan King or Queen.

I thought you may say that Tyler. My camera has been on overload this week, give me an hour and I'll mentally prepare myself to be officially, the sadest person of the week.

My arms are very tan... errr part of the arms are. Besides that everything else as white as white can be! Though I am starting to where cut offs when I am walking so that I can get some color in the legs.

The worse part is...when we are older, we will pay the price for frying our skin.

The rays that it sends out are harmful to your body. They increase your risk of developing skin cancer, and like others have said, it certainly does not help you to age very well.

Personally I think tanning beds are a waste of money. I always see 40-ish year old men/women walking around with skin like shoe leather thinking they are hot **** because they "went tanning". Blech. Seeing the condition of their skin is enough to keep me away.

I don't mind catching a few rays while I'm playing with my kids but I don't make it a point to tan. I have other things I'd rather be doing.

I'm 32 years of age and grew up in Australia for most of my life. We tanned, got burnt, peeled and went back for more (it was the 80's). My dad is a builder so has spent most of his life in the sun (a good 40+ years).

At close to 60 he spends a fair amount of time getting melanomas cut out of his skin - about 20 to date:

    http://images.google.com/images?q=me...ff&sa=N&tab=wi

*not a friendly image search* - and what happens if you don't get checked often.

In Australia skin cancer is a way of life - the highest rate of it in the world, so we don't think too much about it. We also have universal healthcare so it costs nothing to 'stay safe'. We also have education programs and TV commercials about it.

So now I live in the US in Washington State (where it rains nine months of the year).

Sure enough, a few weeks ago I notice a mole on my leg that has all the signs of being a melanoma in it's early stages. It's not a 'real' problem, but something that's gonna cost a few bucks over here to have cut out and stitched up. It also presages the weekly habit now of checking myself frequently for further 'changes' to my skin.

A suntan looks good - fine. The results of that suntan, whether you get it via raw sunlight, or via a tanning bed is akin to russian roulette. In the end you're going to lose, and lose big.

The only time I would consider tanning in a tanning bed is if I was going down to the Eq.

Even then, I would only do it if I couldn't get a dark enough natural tan. This is because I burn fairly easily, which is bad when you go to where it is sunny all day, and you are going to be around lots of water(reflection of the sun is very bad).

That said, right now, you could say I have a "farmer tan". It isn't a very good one though.

Dude what language are you speaking here??

Seriously though if I can't get tan from my computer monitor I don't need one. I have the farmers tan myself very dark arms (elbows down) white boy the rest of the way.
