the more I read thse forums, the more horror stories i read about all the different processors. I really need some advice on the best way to setup online payments. I will be diong about $3000-$5k in sales/month and there is a good chance I will be getting a few chargebacks. I need a solution that will give me good protection, provided I can show proof of delivery. I only sell one product on my website, however, its an expensive cosemtic product and I figure there will be some people who will place large orders and then try to scam me by disputing the charges. I want to go through paypal, but Ive read so many things on sites like paypalsucks.com which makes me think twice. I dont want paypal autmoatically widthdrawing large sums of money from my bank account without my persmission. Plus I currently dont offer refunds because the product has such high costs and if a customer returns it, I cant resell it. Im sure there will be a few customers who try the product and dont like it and will try to do somethign to get their money back.
I am also a little confused on how merchant accounts work. Are they issued by banks? The way I understand it is like this: I need a merchant account with a bank to handle my cash flow and I need a gateway like authorize.net to connect my shopping cart to the credit card companies. Is this correct? What else would I need?
also one more qucik question... with paypal, if a buyer makes a payment with credit card and he/she doesnt not have a paypal account, is the billing address considered the "verified" address? I ask this because Im curious how these sort of transactions are handled in paypals seller protection policy
First payment gateway is a bridge, connecting your site and your account, not CC vompanies.
Concerning protection. First as I understood you sell cosmetics, and it is pharma related stuff, so you may have some difficulties while acquiring MA. Sometimes people use 3pp in such cases.
