What does your name mean?
Hi guys, I thought this might be an interesting topic.
Please post your name and the meaning of your name. If you don't know what your name means, a google search may find it.
My name is John, which means god is gracious - its Hebrew in origin.
Apparently if I'd been a girl, my parents would have called me grace which I'm guessing means the same thing.Last edited by sandanista; 07-08-2005 at 10:58 AM.

DAVID
Gender: Masculine
Usage: English, Jewish, French, Spanish, Russian, Czech, Biblical
Pronounced[: DAY-vid (English), da-VEED (French)
Possibly derived from Hebrew dod meaning "beloved". David was the second and greatest of the kings of Israel, ruling in the 10th century BC. Several stories about him are told in the Old Testament, including his defeat of Goliath, a giant Philistine. Jesus was supposedly descended from him. Other famous bearers of this name include the 5th-century patron saint of Wales, two kings of Scotland, empiricist philosopher David Hume, and explorer David Livingstone. This is also the name of the hero of Charles Dickens' semiautobiographical novel 'David Copperfield'.
And my middle name:
JEREMIAH
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Jewish, Biblical
Pronounced: jer-e-MIE-a
From the Hebrew name Yirmeyahu which meant "YAHWEH has uplifted". This was the name of one of the major prophets of the Old Testament, author of the Book of Jeremiah and (supposedly) the Book of Lamentations. He lived to see the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem in the 6th century BC.
Meaning: "God has uplifted" basically.Last edited by David; 07-08-2005 at 12:30 PM.

From the Greek name Öéëéđđďň (Philippos) which means "friend of horses", composed of the elements öéëďň (philos) "friend" and ‘éđđďň (hippos) "horse". Saint Philip was an apostle in the New Testament. This was also the name of an early figure in the Christian church spoken of in Acts in the New Testament. The name was borne by five kings of Spain, six kings of France, and five kings of Macedon, including Philip II the father of Alexander the Great.
