Could have been a routing issue "across the pond" and not neccesarily something on their end they have control over. I haven't noticed any downtime today -- I actually monitor google packet loss for comparison to our own routing.

Is that a FACT? Or just a figure of speach? I think it would be interesting to see how many they do have. And eBay, Yahoo, MSN, etc... Just how many do they use? I have never seen any of them here asking for a quote on a server. LOL
55,000 servers just to run their web site redundancy?
that is alot of power to be running a serch engine. it would be possible to have their main DNS machine blow, so down time will happen to google. they are not that almighty with machines running our world. however i do not and will not beleive at 55 thousand webservers are running appache to just host google.com
just a wrong click and the google site could be down for days, however they know better than to tough that button,
