I'm getting about 170KB/sec (1.36Mbps) on 5Mbps cable, 120KB/sec on a 10Mbps dedicated uplink from Hurricane Electric in Fremont, CA.

That isn't normal, the server owner should contact his reseller and see what is the issue with his server.

We are working on improving our network, and thus results are not typical and never have been.

I'm not pushing it just letting everyone know my experiences. Just now I tested using the test file in this thread and two other test files on different boxes and the speeds are all the same about 100-150K to 4 different locations across the country.

theres a problem for sure but that is a common problem i dont know , my DSL sends faster than what im downloading

    It's Cogent ...

We all know why it looks good to say "our DC is Cogent Free"..

on a side note I think it's funny that everyone is all "surprised" <grin>

    And it wasn't just Tkam.

I also had a server there for a month.

I posted a bunch of speed test files and you can see the results.

I had the exact same, 100mbit server it would push ~30mbit during prime time. The exact same site pushes 60-80mbit on a different provider that uses a cogent blend.

Threads were all the same speeds people are getting here.

Fast as heck at night slow as heck during primetime.

    Its standard operation for them.
