    Code Snippets Site?

I'm not a professional programmer, but I tend to dabble around in a lot of various things, mostly for hobby. I'm marginally proficient in several different languages, but not skilled enough to be all that great in any of them.

Anyway, for a while I've toyed with the idea of starting something searchable, maybe a little Wiki, for little 'snippets' of code that work. Not full-fledged programs, but more like subroutines that accomplish someee certain purpose. Wouldn't it be great to be able to easily find a little subroutine to do it, with loads of documentation on what it's doing? It could save me a lot of time in not trying desparately to remember how I did something last time.

Is there already a site that does something like this? I'd like to think someone beat me to it, as it's not the most complicated of ideas.

I would love that. I would post in it if you created it.

There's probably hundreds or thousands of places like that already.

In PHP land, here are a few sites (I'm sure there are many more):

    http://www.phpclasses.org
    http://pear.php.net
http://www.hotscripts.com (yes it has full apps too, but also snippets)
    http://www.php-csl.com/snippets/
    http://www.phpbuilder.com/snippet/
    http://www.zend.com/codex.php

Perl you have CPAN of course.

    Python you can check out:
    http://mu.arete.cc/pcr/
    www.daniweb.com/code/python.html

    Ruby you can check out:
    http://www.daniweb.com/code/ruby.html
    http://www.bigbold.com/snippets/tags/ruby

Then I will throw in my shameless plug: http://www.jeremyjohnstone.com/code-gallery/
I don't have hardly anything in it yet, but I plan to add a ton of stuff I have written over the years as I have time.

I still think making a place dedicated to just code functions and snippets etc would be a good idea.
