Man Dies from Forums Overdose
I hope this wasn't already posted.
http://publications.mediapost.com/in...&art_aid=29415
A WEST NYACK, N.Y. MAN was found dead at his computer apparently the victim of trying to keep up with too many professional forums. Childress H. Wanamaker, 54, an account executive at a New York-based new media company, died of starvation according to the West Nyack coroner's office. Wanamaker's emaciated body was found by Loraine, his wife of 26 years, who told MediaPost she had been bringing her husband meals on plastic trays for weeks, but that he never took the time to eat them.
"He was glued to his computer 24/7," she said tearfully. "He was so afraid he was going to miss an opportunity to contribute a comment or start a discussion, that he just stopped eating." She added that Wanamaker's last words were "OK Picard, stick that in your pipe and smoke it..."
Computer forensic specialists from SUNY at Cortland discovered that Wanamaker was subscribed to 48 different forums and networking communities including one apparently having to do with the elderly called "oldtimers" and another apparently limited to just 100 people. They also found that he posted a comment into one forum or another on an average of two per minute every hour of the day for the past seven weeks.
..
In what must be a record, Wanamaker was linked into to over 15,250 other community members, many of whom he exchanged notes with daily. He also contributed to 375 blogs and was expected to start an online column about the impact of interactive communications on health, when he died.

Of course it's fake. You don't just suddenly drop dead from lack of eating or drinking. You'd not be able to function or stay awake days before you were at a point before you'd die. Besides, the cause of death would be starvation (which would take weeks and this guy would have not been able to keep glued to his system without sleep for that long anyway). Anyway, I'm only on day three, so we'll find out soon enough. :-)

This is fake but approximately 10 days ago a boy in Russia (I hope I don't remember wrongly) died because of playing computer games without taking a break for several hours.

How does one die from not taking a break from playing computer games, regardless if you meant more than "several hours"? Perhaps he was merely playing video games when a preexisting medical condition struck?

I wouldn't bother trying to dig that up. I'm certain it's not true.

You actually can die from not sleeping. It takes a lot, but my understanding of it is, you will die from lack of sleep before you die from starvation. Starvation takes a very long time after all (~3 weeks for the average person to die from starvation, provided they have adaquate water supplies, 3 days without water [or 3 minutes without air, the "rule of threes"]).

I find it very difficult to believe that you could have gone 3 days without water in any form (which includes eating most foods, as the vast majority of foods contain water in some form or another).
