At the moment of being a newbie into the hosting arena even though I have many years under my belt of design, programming, and receiving web host that we make the ultimate guide. I notice that a large enough percentage of post within the Running a Web Hosting Business is the same post. So lets put together an ultimate guide on what software you are using and the review of it.
I will start of the posting:
Billing Software: Modern bill - I enjoy using the software. It meets all our needs as a company. However, it is a nightmare to set up.
Help Desk: Esupport by Kayako = Good Ticket system some errors on initial install; however, v3 looks promising.
Control Panel - cPanel I have noticed within version 10 that there are some bugs in it. I would like to see them resolved quickly. Previous stable versions have been good to me though.
Fraud Protection - Do to the ease of integration I choose fruadguardian.com. It seamlessly fits into ModernBill.
Domain: Enom.com once again it is do to the seamless integration. However, they do not have shabby stats either.
Merchant Provider: CDGCommerce.com they have excellent support and fairly good prices.
If you can think of any other topics or software categories please post along.

Nice, I like the reviews I am seeing. I think it will give new host or even upcomming one's an idea. Even if it is a company/software that is off the wall but works great for you please post. Its the ideal of showing individuals all their options and not just the "big" guns.
I can see that many of us all use the most widely know and available but please do not hestiate to post because of the software.
I've Tried client Exec, WHM whois.cart() and a couple of others so far, i have prefered awbs (drabs) i must say that its been able to do everything i want so far, without any / much hassle.
As for domain registration, i think directi have the best deal. It intergrates into some billing software programs, not all granted, but it does have a downloable api kit.
I personally love cerberus, espically the fact that if your just starting up, you can get a free version for 1 email address. So for hosts that are just starting, its a fantastic solution. However some billing systems, like awbs also has a helpdesk built in thats quite efficent.
cPanel seems to be one of the most popular control panels around, and i use it quite a lot. I also like plesk, but i tend to use that on other servers where there is really only one client with lots of domains. I havent tryied hsphear, but i have heard a lot of good reviews. I would really like cPanel to come out for windows. The cPanel features (bugs) havent really bothered me too much yet, couple of annoyences, but most of them i have been able to work around / with.
If your recomemnding stuff for hosts starting up, i would go with cPanel as a control panel, as its popular and theres quite a lot of support around for it, and lots of pleaces offer it free with servers and you can get reseller accounts, for those really just start up. AWBS is quite a low cost monthly, works with cpanel, is easy to setup, comes with templates to get you started right away. It has a helpdesk built in, so that will help with support. Directi or Enom for domains, Direci is cheaper, so more profit, but Enom has a lot of advantages. And billing for startup hosts, well paypal i think is probably the best option.
Directi or Enom
