I am currently looking for a Dedicated host preferably in the Asia Pacific Region. I am in NZ and there is no good way to continue hosting my own servers because of the horrible boradband options available here. (Sigh).
I have a site which hosts approx 8 virtual domains, all low traffic (less than 10000 hits per month combined).
I don't need a flash box currently it's running on a Duron 850mhz no issues (with 512mb ram... which makes it run fine =-) On OpenBSD
My Budget is no more than $30US per month.
I wouldn't mind a bit of disc space (40GB+), but appart from that a bandwidth cap of less than 30GB would be more than ample (mostly just personal sites a few opensource projects, and some sites for my consulting service).
I would consider UML or XEN based virtual server but would pref somthing with 256mb+ of mem and good disc IO so virtual servers are a bit of let down in this area.
I also would consider somewhere not in Asia Pacific, but it MUST not be a US server.
I only need 2-3 IPs.
I have requested quotes through the finder and had a look through the offers forum, but no one has gotten back to me and there is nothing in my budget.
This is more an enquiry into hosting providers in the AP region and any recomendations for the budget i'm working with. I'm not too stressed about a SLA of 95% ish. But of course prefer somthing that is going to be available most of the time. I also do mind having only partial management facilitys. (this ain't too critical stuff).
Yeah, My partner lives in singapore, and I travel there regularly. I was a bit shocked about the excessive pricing for hosting there. I've seen a few reasonable ones lately, but is definately not the Mecha of broadband that it get's talked up to be.
One other thing you may be able to help me with is VOIP carriers in Singapore, I would love to have a Singapore Terminated Voip Number(IAX or SIP). Do you know anyone there that offers this service there. Again price is important. (I am a PhD Student so yeah. ;o)
VOIP , you would first need to check with IDA if licensing is needed. Singapore is definitely not the Mecca for overseas Internet bandwidth, but local "intranet" Singapore One is fast. It actually depends on where your targetted audience is, Singapore is great for South East Asian region. Pricing is expensive , not that excessive, try New Zealand or Australia, then you will know what is excessive : )
Let me know if I can be of help, just PM me if you need to contact IDA etc.
Trust me having lived in NZ all my life I know how expensive bandwidth is here. =-)
Why do I need to check with IDA? I don't want to set up a VOIP termination company, I only want to know if there exists one. The second option is to install openwrt onto my Partners Linksys router with asterix and ask her to get a voip phone to plug into it.
But I would rather just have a local singapore number here, makes it easier from her end.
There must be companies providing this service there. I mean even NZ has this service now.
One thing I noticed when I was last there, was how cheap it would be to completely screw singtell. Given singapores size, a couple of $100k worth of cheap wifi equipment would all that would be needed to remove the need for a normal POTS line carrier service there.... Of course given the state of the "Democratic Republic" I think the government might have somthing to say. ;-)
