    Expired domain registration

    Hello,

Although I was browsing through the forum for a while looking for the same or similar case, I really need your advice.

So, here is the situation: I have done a whois search for one .com domain name. Results are: it has expired in 2003, and it's status is "ACTIVE".

What does it mean? Should I wait (and if yes, what for) or should I start a registration process (what registrar would you recommend for this), and in which way should I do that (as a usual domain registration or it is something special)?

    Thanks.

dont rely on whois results to tell if a domain is avalible.

    Use a domain avalibility tool
    registrars have these tools avalible.

I reccomend Registerfly (http://registerfly.com) for domain registrations.
I could tell you a joke about UDP. But I'm not sure you would get it!

    I personally would recommend Namecheap.com

You can always try to register the domain name to find out if it is available or not.

Don't tell me that name's with register.com or netsol.

Anyway, how about posting the WHOIS details without the name?
Kinda hard to believe a name that expired in 2003 is still active,
although more things are becoming possible every single day.

Although not always 100% accurate, the FreeWho status checker is darn good for the price ... FREE! Give it a try: http://www.freewho.com/checker/

But the guys are right above... best way to see if a domain is available is to try to register it at your favorite registrar (somethimes several just to be sure).

But davezan is alluding to the fact that NetSol and Register.com seem to have this habit of sometimes not releasing expired domains "on schedule" although they have gotten better.

http://whois.internic.net can tell you the registry expiration date, since the registrar expiration date can be played with

i remember a domain was set toexpire at 2069 in the registrar and the registrar was 2004 or something
