I was in the market for a new VPS setup, and the choices came down to being PowerVPS vs ServInt. Since I had some issues with certain specs of ServInt's server configuration, I went with PowerVPS. To be fair before starting this review, ServInt had excellent pre-sales support, and my questions were answered very quickly with detailed replies.
So then, PowerVPS.... step-by-step.
I sent my initial email to them on Jun 10, 2005 at 1:32 AM. I received a detailed reply which fully answered each of my questions just 16 minutes later at 1:48 AM. The reply times for the back and forth replies after this ranged from 2 minutes up to 36 minutes.
I purchased the Power-2 plan, and I sent my payment on Jun 10, 2005 at 11:38 AM. There was a bit of a time-gap between the payment and the setup, as they had to both build the server and call me to ensure that I was actually the one who ordered it. The server was setup and ready to go at 3:15 PM on the same day.
I'm not going to trash a certain domain registrar here, but thanks to their greedy tactics, I was forced to transfer my domain to GoDaddy in order to properly use the nameservers that PowerVPS required. The total transfer time was eight days, and during this time, I worked on getting the server configured to my liking. I had some questions for the support team, and the pre-sales response times were still in effect; the longest I had to wait for a reply was about an hour, and we sent a total of 32 emails back and forth during these 8 days.
Finally, everything was ready to go. The speeds on my site were leagues better than with my previous host (which disappeared out of the blue... you still owe me cash and an explanation, Roy Kartadinata). Speed tests can be checked at my site or my woman's site.
At $85 / month, it's not the cheapest plan I could have found (though similar deals from known hosts aren't far behind in price). However, with the excellent support, their great reputation, and not to mention a very speedy server, I believe I have made the right choice and would recommend these guys to anyone looking for a VPS setup.
