PowerVPS has an excellent network for UK transit.
Here you can try a test if you want:

This is ServInt test file. Note that server is not empty, and i get around speed around 600 kbs. Well, test it for yourself.
P.S. I love this competition!Last edited by mrkredo; 06-20-2005 at 11:08 PM.

mrkredo,
Can you show us a tracert to PowerVPS and one to ServInt? PowerVPS has BtN which is what ServInt uses as their primary provider. It shouldn't be any faster at ServInt to be honest.

This is pretty neat; I set up a client (in Japan) at powervps today, and she said the ping time was faster.
Anyway, all looks good to me here, but as I said in another thread I've only been there for two days now.
When I ping'd both though, they were mostly the same, maybe a millisecond difference now and again. That's coming from Pennsylvania.
As a neat little note, if you ping powervps from a servint vps, you get an average of 1ms ping times!

Could you try my server instead? "medialayer.com". Charles @ PowerVPS told me that www.powervps.com is hosted on BtNAccess single-homed only.

Downloading from medialayer.com was strange... speed fluctuated between 700KB/s and 4.0MB/s. Here I tried again and this time speed was almost constant (yet not as fast as from forumnyc):

It could be that the VPSs are capped at a certain rate. Still, that's quite fast. What location are you at?

I've been real happy with PowerVPS.com and have been with them for the past 6 months. Before that I was with Hostgator (in the Planet (tx) and before that I had my own server in the Planet (tx).
The support and stability has been very impressive. The speed is decent although I feel like I had much better throughput from The Planet DC in Texas.

I can't recall any network downtimes during the last six months. I have the first VPS package and the speed is adequate. After running through the VPS tweaks thread on WHT, it improved quite a bit.

Yes, PowerVPS has a lot more bandwidth providers than ServInt does which will lead to better speeds.
IIRC, they have:
nLayer
BtN Access
Server Central
Aleron
NAC
Tiscali
Compare that to ServInt's bandwidth providers:
BtN Access
D-Tag

Its the Tiscali link that PVPS added back in April. Gives great pings for Europe and Asia users.

Damn that was many replies! I have made up my mind and I'm going to use PowerVPS
Now is the only question on how to do??
Edit: wtf?? Is the cost $44.50/month? PowerVSP is to expensive for me I can afford about 6$/month. Does anyone use this defenderhosting . com they say they are good for streaming media.Last edited by JMH83; 07-04-2005 at 04:29 PM.
