    Unhappy Online Features

I'm trying to start a server. I have apache 2, proftpd, mysql, and PHP. What I want is a online PHP script that would check to see if a username exsists before alowing someone to sign up, Basically I want a form that would check to see if a username that a visiter enters already exsists and if it does have him chose another, and if it doesnt proceed to another form. Please help!

Do you already have the web server running with PHP and MySQL?

The code for this would be quite simple.
See if you can pick up a book on PHP, MySQL and Apache called:
SAMS Teach Yourself PHP, MySQL, and Apache in 24 hours.

This book will help you out alot and will get you basic knowledge and skills to write the code that you described above.

Well... Using MySQL will be good but you can also use a text file to do this. For example you can have usernames in a text file and have PHP scan it to see if the username is taken or not.

Let me see if I can find you couple of pages which can help you out.
