    RaQ550 "Kernel Panic" Error Message

    Hi All,

when startig up a RaQ550 it displays a "Kernel Panic" error message. This would display even when no drive was installed. I installed a drive, dowmnloaded/installed an OS, and upon reboot, got the error message again. Anyone got any idea what it is.? I thought "Kernel Panic" would only be displayed with a "faulty kernel". How is it that it displays when no drive installed.?
    Cheers.

the raq needs a hard drive with valid kernel on it to boot normally.

you could try holding down the S button on the LCD panel while powering up, then choose Boot from ROM, to bring it up off the embedded ROM image and see if that helps.

have you ever attempted a ROM upgrade? perhaps the upgrade didn't go well...

try connecting a null modem cable to the serial port as well to see what it tells you on power up. might help narrow down the failing component...

    Hi All,

thanx, was able to boot, and set ip to 192.168.168.168 255.255.255.0, but, when trying to access it, I get the following error in Firefox,

The connection was refused when attempting to contact 192.168.168.168:444. What's the 444 in reference to.?
    Cheers.

    Hi All,

ok, ok, too much cramming of CCNA stuff to see the simplness of it..firewall was blocking port 444...now, whilst setting up for the 1st time, I tried to click back to a previous page, in the wizard, but couldn't. I then closed the browser, thinking this would null the set up, but, it didn't..I now can't access again..it gives,

status.status.com could not be found. Please check the name and try again.

I don't see a reset button on the front panel of this device..how do I reset to do it all again..?
    Cheers.

To rerun the setup wizard use this URL (substitute domain name or IP address as needed):

    http://www.example.com:444/nav/flow.php?root=base_wizardLicense

You will still need to log in as admin first. If the password was not set properly on your first pass through the wizard, it should still be 'admin' by default. Or you can reset it to 'admin' via the LCD panel options if it was set. Or you can use it as you set it.

If you need to reset the IP etc, hold down the "S" button on the front, then press "E" to select the first option (CONFIGURE NETWORK). Enter IP, netmask and gateway via the up/down and right/left buttons, pressing "E" when done with each to accept. Then choose Save and press E again.

Port 444 on the RaQ 550 is the admin UI webserver (separate Apache from the one that runs on port 80 for user-space serving).

    Hi All,

ok, thanx guys. Now, I need to understand what is wrong with the normal boot process. When booting from ROM, how is it different from booting as normal. Why the kernel panic error, even when a drive is not present..? Thanx.

It looks like you have errors in your file system:

    EXT2-fs: unable to read superblock
XFS: bad magic numberXFS: SB validate failed<0>Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mou1 <6>disabling network interfaces.
    Might be a failed/failing HD.

The kernel panic is because the kernel can't be loaded from the disk. The ROM boot loader has no place to go, so it just hangs with an error.
