Is there any way to stop SYN attacks in VPS?

    Hello everyone,

I've been with Powervps since April 2005 and I am very happy with the service.

Firstly, I would like to thank Rob, Tomas, Tony and others in Powervps support staff. You have provided a great service.

Secondly, since Tony told me yesterday that he wasn't sure there is a method to stop SYN flood in VPS flatforms, so such a method like

    echo l > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_syncookies

isn't possible, I would like to ask if anyone here has experiences about this. The main question is: how to prevent SYN floods at server level without using SYN Cookies?

Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks in advance.

No way that I know - usually these can be lessened with some type of mitigation at the IP level but it depends on whether your provider has this service.

Web Hosting? Been there. Done that.
