'.xxx' Domains

After years of debate, the online porn industry will finally have a place to call home. ICANN approved Wednesday a new .xxx domain. Supporters see the move as a positive step toward cleaning up the Web and protecting children from pornography, which is ubiquitous in the .com realm. But criticism for the change has already started to build. Some worry that there is no incentive for porn sites to switch to the new domain, while civil rights groups fear that regulators will attempt to force sites to move to .xxx, leading to potential fights over what should qualify as pornography. Do you think the .xxx domain is a good idea?

Of course. I remember for the longest time whitehouse.com was a porn site. (it might still be...) But now if an adult business has whitehouse.xxx, I think we'd all know ahead of time before we clicked.

Not the best example, but you get the drift. Surfers will have a pre-warning.

I guess it could swing both ways for the adult biz, but I'm one for organization and for classifying everything. If I owned the internet starting with media, I would have all music related sites like madonna.music. All movie sites: terminator.movie, etc...

But that's just me.

Yes, I totally agree! But I think it should be a standard for only adult websites to have to be registered as .xxx because then it can be used a lot easier for a filter!

I think they're a great idea. I stumble across porn sites every once in a while because the domain doesn't make it obvious that it's a porn site. If they're made to use a .xxx I think it'd be great, it'd also help for site filters to block out porn sites when kids are using the internet.

.xxx TLD name registrants will be expected to adhere to the a set of best business practices that will include:

*
Safeguarding children from being marketed to or targeted online by adult webmasters;
*
Defending customer privacy;
*
Deploying accurate meta-tagging;
*
Ensuring the clear and accurate disclosure of relevant practices, security of information and transactions, and accountability through the provision of accurate contact information;
*
Protecting intellectual property rights;
*
Combating the use of unlawful malicious codes and technologies, including spoofing and pfishing;
*
Not engaging in fraudulent, anonymous, unsolicited or illegal commercial email advertising their products and services; and
*
Avoiding the use of misleading domain names or domain names intended to attract child pornography consumers.

good stuff, but adult webmasters will say the compliance is not worth the trouble.

I think it's a good idea because then schools would be able to block porn sites easier, and it would be better because porn sites and non-porn sites would be seperated, and children won't be exposed to porn so easily(hopefully).
