    Recommendations for a software firewall

I have been using Shorewall for a long time now. However, with recent announcement of Tom Eastep departure from the project I got the feeling Shorewall is going nowhere now.

So, what are your recommendations - what software firewall to put on Linux boxen? I got several Gentoo servers and quite a few CentOS 4 machines.

I've always liked APF (http://www.rfxnetworks.com/apf.php) Its iptables based as well so should "just work".

I will put another vote in for APF. Ryan has built a really nice script and if you want to add your own rules you can just plug them into the configuration files which allows you do to anything you want with APF.

I recommend APF. It is pretty easy to use AND there is a lot of support available for it here.

    Thanks everyone.

Neither of the solutions is readily available in Gentoo, but it looks like APF will be quite easy to install. And I like the DoS protection script, too.
