    Sendmail

Is there anything else you can use besides sendmail. My server seems to not have it. When I check in the /usr/sbin/sendmail it's not there. Is there another one I can use instead? Or perhaps a different path it could be at?

If you are using an RPM based distro

    do

    rpm -qa | grep sendmail

it should result with something like this but with different versions.

    sendmail-devel-8.11.6-27.73
    sendmail-8.11.6-27.73
    sendmail-cf-8.11.6-27.73

you need at least those 3 rpm packages for your system to work.

I would not recommend installing sendmail from source unless you know what you are doing.

Your server may have another MTA installed such as qmail, or Postfix.

Do you know the paths to either of those?

That would vary depending on the install method, etc.

To find out if you have an email server installed

    try

    telnet localhost 25

if a mail server is listening you should get a greeting for the smtp server.
