Good ping for a game server
What is a good ping for a game server to have? Less that 30ms?
That is the million dollar question and the answer is simple:
Depends on where you are connecting from. You will not find any datacenter that pings less than 30ms for everyone anywhere.
Determine who your target audience is and cater to them. No matter where you pick you will lose out on some business because someone else doesnt ping well to them.
Can't we all just get along
I am just wondering because I live in england and I want a nice gaming server but I found a nice one in germany and I ping it and I get about 20 - 30ms. Is that good for gaming?
That is a good ping, but ping isnt everything. Line quality is very important too (no packetloss, bandwidth).
Agreed with 2uantuM!
Bakie, Its good but if you are going to compete in any matches you must have a server that fits the thing your going for, like a uk leauge and then you have a germany server... I think thats how it runs Im not sure, but I would look for other uk companys untill you choose to go with a germany company.. good luck
Our gaming clan just picked up a dedicated server from 4uservers.co.uk and so far, so good. It's actually becoming quite popular, and even those on the other side of the pond can play.
We also have two boxes with Voxrox in NYC, and they still serve us well.
PM if you want IPs, but they are all running Battlefield 1942, it's mods, or the new BF2 demo.
Ping maybe low but what about the bandwidth?
My advice get a fast game server in the country you are playing!
This avoids hops...
I thought bf was a dying game lol
Not now that BF2 came out
If you shoot for an average ping of 60-70 for all your clients combined then you are doing good.
