Need A United Kingdom Web Host

    Hi, All,

I am looking for a fast and reliable web host in the United Kingdom that offers Apache. I would like to find one that is directly connected to LINX, the London Internet Exchange, if possible.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank You,

    Hi,

Do you want server that will host your web site to be in UK? If yes then find a directory that features UK web hosting companies. I can point you to uk.tophosts.com as wel as webhostdir.com

But there are a lot of UK web hosts here at WHT.

I would reccomend Register1.net. I have had no problems with them at all.

    Hi, Dimitar,

Yes, I am looking for a web host with a .co.uk extension with all the web server equipment physically located in the United Kingdom, preferably London, with direct connections to LINX, the London Internet Exchange as I have noticed that connections from Europe to the States are often somewhat slow.

Also, I am looking for a fast and reliable Apache server, preferably with a Red Hat Linux operating system, with cPanel and AwStats.

Apache, AwStats, cPanel and .co.uk are musts.

    Best Regards ,

Try www.hostroute.co.uk - They are an excellent company with their servers located in Redbus, London.

    Hi, Xcellweb Matty,

Sounds promising! Thanks for the tip!

I've have seen Redbus mentioned as an Internet powerhouse.

I will check out hostroute tonight.

As you may have guessed, Europe is somewhat unfamiliar territory for me.

    Hi, monaghan,

I am just looking for inexpensive web server space in the mother country for another HTML/graphics site that could eventually end up with a lot of pages. I code with text editors only, no WYSIWYGs or Microsoft stuff, so I prefer Apache. A dedicated server would be overkill for my simple needs.

A BSD operating system would be okay, too. The BSD variants are very well respected here in the States.

The web host I am using for my first web site uses Red Hat and Apache. This web server has extremely high up times, so I know it can be a good combination.

I can say one thing, AVOID at all cost www.pipex.net (and the smaller companies they bought over hosteurope and webfusion).

I personally got to sick of UK hosting companies I decided to try a US one (www.liquidweb.com) and I am 110% glad I did. But if you really feel you must have it in the UK, then avoid Pipex big time.

avoid Pipex lol? why you say that? that have 100% uptime on SLA support is second to none and are very good hosts also you can try openhosting

  11. #11
Don't get me started on Pipex. 100% SLA LOL. I had a dedicated with them, and weekly it would be down for a while. Yeah I got some refunds but only when it was over x minutes (30?) down.

If there support is 2nd to non, you should try LW, 5 times better. Pipex tech support was OK, not as good as LW, but it is there billing/admin departments which are a problem.

Once you step outside a box with them, like your server is hacked, expect endless crap between departments. I also got sick of wrongly calculated bills. Departments do not speak to each other. Customer services has a totally stinking attitude, that is the worst part.

One of the bigger UK hosts that i am aware of is 1and1 or uk2net

Best of luck in making your choice.

1and1 are not in the UK as said above. Unitedhosting, while a decent host from what I have heard, are based in the USA.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think unitedhosting have their office in the UK and the servers in the US. I think they are a good host, too. After 14 hours of web research last year I had chosen them to host my 7 sites.

The problem was they did not like my debit card (amazon and others did) so I switched to fluidhosting which was a little more expensive, but I thought was faster too. As I said, I haven't any personal experience with unitedhosting, but I am happy my card was rejected because I found out that fluidhosting are very good indeed.

Your correct. I dont think we would suite the poster as our servers are in the USA. Our offices are in the UK, also with staff in Canada and soon Australia!

Good luck to the original poster, who might also want to look into http://www.clook.net/

    RadarCat,

You may want to contact Jon, at PathFinderHosting. I have known Jon for a very long time now, and I will happily vouch for him. I am quite sure he can sort something out for you.

IIRC, most of PathFinder's servers are located at Global Switch 1, in London.

This does not make too much difference though, and I think United Hosting being the great company they are, more then makes up for their servers being an extra 100ms away lol

I really would not worry about them having servers in the US only.

    Hi, j4son,

Thanks for the info. I will check out

    http://www.httpnetworks.co.uk .

I keep seeing references to the Docklands. It must be heavily wired for the Internet.
