    hosting a live broadcast

my webhost does not allow me to run a shoutcast server.
Do I need to switch a hosting company?
Do most hosting companies NOT aloow users to run processes?

Well if you need to run a shoutcast server and they don't let you, then yes, obviously you would need to change hosts.

I think that FDCServers allows Shoutcast, but I don't know if they're any good, their reviews are pretty mixed.

The guys at *********** have a sweet system where they will allow you to run through their shoutcast server for a reasonable fee (with a premium for additional bandwidth over the basic, of course).

It works well--I've done it myself. You'll need to email them for the specifics.

If you're happy with your current webhosting, stay with your host and find yourself a shoutcast provider like www.streamguys.com

I would recommend Gnax for Shoutcast:

You are best finding a dedicated ShoutCast company rather then using your web hosts servers for it.

I do not really blame web hosts for not allowing clients to use their hosting servers for streaming, it can totally eat the available bandwidth in no time.

Over the past year I've had quite a few people come and ask about live broadcast hosting and I've reccomended them to Gnax everytime. They're great and I've heard great reviews about them though I've never personally used them.
