Needing web hosting to store my MP3's
Anyone have an idea if Canaca.com is a good place to store my MP3 files? I'd think, 10 GB space, along with 200 GB file transfer, is sufficient. Please, share your thoughts. Your suggestions and ideas are highly appreciated.

Im not sure what their TOS and AUP states with respect to MP3's - however, that aside...
I will run through the streets of Toronto naked if they actually allow you to use 10 GB of diskspace and 200 GB transfer for $3.95/month....

When you say "my MP3s," do you mean you hold the copyright/license?

Sounds like we have a challenge.. Who wants to top this one..
As C.H. stated so eloquently, there is no way a host is going to give you that much space and BW for that price it just won't happen.

No, I own no copyright/license. Those are MP3's downloaded from the internet, some are from iTunes store.

Well then they're illegal, and you have absolutely no right to post them online.
Second of all, they won't allow you to upload them.
Thirdly, there is no way you can get 10GB storage and 200GB bandwidth for $3.95 a month. They oversell a lot, have horrible performance, and will most likely suspend you if you get anywhere close to the limit.

Well i'll tell you (rather bluntly) that no web host in their right mind would touch your site with a 100-foot CAT5 cable. (told you i was going to be blunt...).
No web host will allow you to host any content to which you do not own the copyrights to.
EDIT :: Looks like you're a faster typer than i am HostingInsider

O-K, where can I get licenses for the MP3's that I have? Is it still illegal even though some are taken from the CD's that I purchased legally? WTF!

I doubt that you would be able to obtain licenses to freely distribute them on the internet. No major record company would allow you to do that. Just because you own a CD doesn't mean that you can freely distribute it to others, that legal loophole ended with the downfall of Napster and the Digital Millenium Act.

OMG, so there's no way I can store any kind of sound file?! All I'm trying to do is let visitors be able to listen to music; I'm not distributing it. I'm sure, any kind of music band fan site contains MP3's.

Sure, we have several bands that are clients of ours and they freely post THEIR music as MP3's for their fans, visitors, etc to listen to..
However, this is THEIR music and THEY own the rights to it.... Hence, they can do as they please with it...

You do not own the rights to do this unless the band give your express permission to do so.
Dude, all these guys are trying to keep you out of jail. You post a bands music on your website and you can be in some deep stuff.
Local bands (indie bands) might not care as much because they want to get their names out but you should get written permission before posting any music on a website.

Rule of thumb for me, as I run a couple of music sites myself and abide by the laws of the music industry. And I do know what is and isn't legal..
If it's audio/video from a performance, concert, interview that was recorded by a radio or television station, that is ok for you to host, as it's not a mp3 file. If it is an actual mp3 file of songs from a cd, yes that is ILLEGAL. Because the artist owns the copyright. However, you can put links up to route your visitors to the LEGAL download of the song. Like links to their site on their record label or their fanclub sites. But basically, when you are hosting all this music on a site, I hate to say it, but that is totally illegal! You could be held liable by the artists or record labels if they wanted to pursue it with you. You are taking away money that rightfully belongs to the artist, by having MP3 files on your site.
