anyone have any news from them? Their server/website/helpdesk have been down for around 5 days already, all emails are bouncing back and THENETWAY on WHT dont reply to pms (even when his status is shown as online). So yea anyone have any news from them? Or should i just look for a new host?
Well that is the latest post by the owner of the company.
Well, that was made on 6-june, thats yesterday and he is trying to manage a DDOs attack it seem. I am not sure how, the original poster ICNick is saying that they are not available for past 5 days! Have you PMed them here.
I would say its been down since about last week friday maybe (i could be a bit off, id have to look at my e-mail trails) but it was good like for half a day within that time (after he sent a mass e-mail to all customers saying that they installed so and so)
I still dont plan on giving up hope yet, as they were completely fine until then, but i wont be waiting around too much longer before i cancel... i have a WoW guild waiting for me to finish our site.
I just wish that he would send out more frequent e-mails to let us all know what was going on exactly, i had to pry a bit so far to get reasons. I can understand why he cant send us mail to keep us updated being the server is down, but hopefully they will think about keeping a copy of all their customers e-mails on their home machine
and I hope he reads this too, and GL with getting 'rid" DDoS Ken
his site / helpdesk is not accesable, all emails bounce back, he reply me through pm on wht on saturday saying there is a ddos we will have to wait til its done.. after saturday i have not receive any reply from him eventhough i see his status is ONLINE. By the way the server is already down on thursday becuase they moved the server from quickpacket to their own network so it is now 5 days.
The DDOS attack is still going on unfortunately (Damn kids!, *sighs*) We are hoping for it to end today. When it appears it's done, we go ahead and restart all services, then once sites go online, it just starts again.
We are deeply sorry for any inconvience this has caused our customers, however we do wish we had control over this, but we don't. We did everything possible to prevent this, but these things do come in every now and then.
I will update this thread when anything comes in new.
HostNetway is now in full operation, and all sites are running NORMAL, proud to say. In the end, we came to find out our datacenter provided us with the wrong Subnet Mask for our IP allowcation that we own, which means traffic could not process correctly. We finally had a tech at Peer 1 to verify our Subnet Mask, and it turned out to be the problem. HostNetway has corrected the subnet mask with our IPs and all websites should now be online and running smoothly like before.
We would like to thank our customers for being patient with us during this last weekend, and look forward to the future!
5 minutes after i received this email the server went down/under ddos attack again? (or should it be the ip problem?) Right after the email and until now which is june 8 10:30 am the server is still down. I wonder what is the real problem to the server? Well i have been extremely patient but yea are you guys planning to find a solution to this problem? Maybe you guys should rent a server from another company, put our sites online, move to the new server again when everything is fixed.
Originally posted by zero0ne agreed ICNick, this is getting very frustrating... like very very...
the real question is if i leave, where does my domain name go?
(or how do i administer it?)
I'm sure Kenneth is working to resolve the problems as quickly as possible. As for your domain, if you registered it through HNW, you should request a transfer to <insert new host here> and they would transfer it for you.
I can verify that HostNetway is under a very nasty DDOS attack. I attempted to help Kenneth block it, but even after blocking several different Class C ranges the attack was still coming in strong. Needless to say, it's a huge range of IP's that are attacking, most of them spoofed, so once we got one blocked, it'd change to some other random IP.
Last I talked to Kenneth (Yesterday I believe) he was going to have the datacenter nullroute the main server IP as it was the one being attacked, and then change the IP for all the accounts.
Yes. I talked to Kenneth about 2 hours ago and he is still working on the issue. For those waiting on personal responses from him, please keep in mind that he is busy trying to correct the situation and your requests are NOT being ignored.
To be honest, DoS attacks are unpredictable as far as when they will stop. To his defense, the best he can do is say "we are working on it" and "we're waiting for the attack to subside". I know this because one of our servers is having the same problem at this moment. It's particularly disappointing I'm sure to not hear from him at all - but it seems that the general answer is not sufficient either.
a. Shared Hosting and Reseller Account Service Level Agreement of 99.999%. This SLA is specificly for our Shared Hosting and Reseller Account customers. HostNetway guarantee's that your website will be up for at least 99.999% of the time of a month. If for some reason your website(s) are down due to a service failures or server downtime for a full 15 minutes, the custoemr may request a pro-rate for the amount of downtime. This is completely up to the customer to file for credit, which must be filed within 4 days of the outage. Please send evidence of the outage or service interuption and the credit request to [email protected]
I guess we will be getting something back for the downtime
you seem to not get what im trying to say niyogi, its the lack of communication, like i said.
when i get an e-mail that says its FULL steam now, i expect it to be good to go, not go down in another 5 minutes, ALSO because there was mention of the ip switchup or whatnot, it made it seem like it wasnt a DDoS at all but that was the problem.
or add it that I didnt get an e-mail letting me know the site was up, just the DNS needed to resolve is another thing that bugs me, give me the IP so i can atleast work on the site.
yes i was really disappointed with the lack of communication too (i am actually not too mad about the downtime since i know ddos is something that hostnetway cant really control). When i signed up with hostnetway, they were in the middle of a HD failure thing. At that time, i see that hostnetway staff give their clients a update almost daily (that page is on google lol http://hnstatus.com/ ), that made me thinks they are responsible but now i guess i am wrong.
Unfortunately, the DDOS attack has not ended although sites are now loading. This is a very very very challenging DDOS attack it seems, and appears we are being directly targeted. We are still seeing signs of a DDOS, however websites are loading. We cannot say if sites will remain online or go slow later on, as it's unpredictable, however we have a good number of people working with us to put a end to this.
We could not bare the current datacenter we were in. We have migrated to GNAX. All future servers will be setup on this network as well. The DDOS attack is over, as far as we know, as we are no longer on the attacking server, and once the billing manager propagates to the name servers, HostNetway will be releasing an official letter explaining the changes made. Although people do think that software's and hardware WILL BLOCK DoS attacks, they don't unfortunately, it can only help prevent it. These softwares and hardware are very very good to have in any case however, as you are likely to get attacked even more.
We thank all of our patient and loyal customers, and as well those who showed understanding in our situation.
Honestly, this seems to be a question nobody else can answer other than HostNetway (even by a PM or something). I don't think it's necessary to post the question here. Seeing as you did though, I speculate that they've changed IPs or servers which still have old RDNS entries on them.
