What does your messages say, when bind is down?
/var/log/messages
Does bind fail at a fixed frequency? (possibly a cron job doing something nasty)

Try /scripts/ulimitnamed, then the fixndc and fixnamed scripts. If that doesn't work copy your named.conf somewhere safe then try to use cPanel's scripts to rebuildnamedconf.

Allow named to log on a seperate file so that you can track your errors easier than messages log.

I think I fixed the problem by rebooting the server.

it may be back in a while...
segmentation faults may happen (if the software is not the problem) with memory problems
maybe out of memory too..
