Hey,
How is that 1dollarhosting.com can offer 1.00/month hosting, with a one time fee of $49.00, then only $1.00 per month.
Do you expect that they will be in business very long at this rate.
I saw my first billboard for them on the way home from the desert on christmas and was suprised to see any advertising from a company that charges so little.
What's everyone opinions?

No personal experience, but I say it's a scam. There's no way anyone can make a profit charging $1/month. Say the person stays for a year ($48/12=4+1=$5/month). Not much profit to be made from charging $5/month.

Expect them to cram up as many people on as low bandwidth they can. Which mean that your site will definately be up & running for tha price... but it will be really really slow.
I doubt it is 'unlimited bandwidth & unlimited space' as well...

Yes, especially with their "Unlimited bandwidth" which I read though their terms of service and found nothing related to unlimited meaning limited in any way.
Still strange to see them up on a billboard along the highway at a mall no less.
Hmmm it gets even worse I suppose if you figure anyone staying with you for two years, since you then lose the 48.00 membership fee since it's been figured into the $5.00 for the first years monthly dues, then it becomes just $12.00 a year to them.
Will be interesting to see how long they stay in business doing that.

Like Felix said, your site will be hosted but I wouldn't expect superior support and fast servers. You'd have to load the sites on to make a decent profit for the most part. Hopefully it works out for them, but I wouldn't put a site there.

And how much of that $1 will they really see anyway? Dont forget about per transaction fees and monthly percentages taken out by the merchant account they use.

Well the only thing that makes me say that it isn't some kid with a cable model is they sported for billboards which would be rather pricey. I suppose if some people can offer free hosting, they can offer $1 hosting, but personally, if your web site means more to you than the cost of two tacos at Jack in the Box, then I'd wonder...

It looks like 1dollarhosting.com is doing a colo through Maxim.net (based on the SpamCop host tracker). They've got a $1.33-a-pop ad on Goto.com, that's got to be expensive.
The thing that red-flags me most about 1dollarhosting.com is that they've got "BBB Reliability Program" logo, but it doesn't link to the BBB site, and searching the BBB site for "1dollarhosting.com" turns up nothing.

I've also seen these billboard ads along I-4 in Orlando and I-85 in Atlanta, so they have one major budget... both of those venues are expensive.

1dollarhosting.com Fraud
All,
Our company is with BBBOnline. I just checked the database and couldn't find them and talked with a BBBOnline about 1dollarhosting.com They area aware of the fraudulent use of the BBBOnline logo usage and are taking legal action.
If you're going to commit fraud openly on the index page of a site then I expect everything else inside the site is suspect as well.

Another fine example of the abundance of stupidity in this industry. It's pretty simple:
IF YOU'RE NOT A MEMBER OF BBBONLINE, DON'T ADVERTISE THAT YOU ARE!
What the hell is wrong with people. All I ever see is lie after lie after lie. It's insulting that a host believes they can just lie and no one will notice. They must think everyone in the world is as stupid as they are.
