Hello, on my linux box im planning to do a couple basic things for security (i plan to host CS 1.6 game servers on this box). First, im going to close every port except 80, and 27015 and 27016 (27015 and 27016 are the game ports that im going to use). Then, im going to edit the config in the /etc/ folder and change my SSH port to 27015 (so that i have one less port to worry about). Then, im going to install/setup APF ( click here to see what im talking about ) as my basic security measure. Do you think this would be enough security for a new/small gamehosting company?
what about changing FTP and SSH to a random port like 6150? i spoke to a network specialest who works with firewalls/security and he said that would be a pretty good idea because there are servers that scan ports 21/22 to try to hack into it, so that would decrease vulnerability.
