Testing my Bandwidth - Is there a Tool?
I would like to have an automated tool that would regularly test the connection speed between my computer and my web-host.
For instance, it could download a 1 mb file once every hour.
I want to test my web-host to see how often it slows down (gets overloaded), as I have occasionally noticed download rates that are very slow - ex. 10 kb/s.
Is there any kind of tool that might do this?
That'd be a very subjective test - but you could probbably try running a script in Windows every hour.

I'm guessing that he is comparing the download speeds to his/her normal download speeds on most sites, so the speed of his internet connection wouldn't really matter.
I'm not sure if some hosts would want you running that script on a shared server, I suggest checking with them first to avoid any conflicts with them.
Actually, there is a free Windows program for this exact purpose that we often recommend to our Clients -- it has been Potent Product approved.
Dont' let the date of the last version fool you. I've been using this program for years and it works excellent.
