Bandwidth graphic explanation - w/graphic

I have a very low volume site. The data center provides bandwidth stats through their switch/router.

Can anyone explain what the spikes might be in the attached graphic. It seems like there is an inbound spike followed by an outbound spike a few minutes later. Light blue is inbound, dark blue is outbound.

For reference I am using a fully patched W2k3 w/software firewall. A few of the inbound spikes are likely when I uploaded a 25MB file via FTP.

Thanks!

DNS Update? Backup Synchronization? Antivirus Signature Updates? Spam Signature Updates? Mailing List? Like nadtz said it can be a number of things....

You need to list the server specs, and ALL the software/services running on it.

Are the spikes periodically spaced out or in some fashion random? Always the same size? etc. You need to provide more information for anyone to be able to make sense of it all.
