Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance 5500 Series

I have a client exploring various firewall options--has anyone tried out any models from Cisco's new ASA 5500 series? Apparently it combines the firewall functionality of a 500 series PIX plus SSL/IPSec VPN acceleration and intrusion detection, in a single box. Prices seem pretty reasonable, at least by Cisco standards.

I don't know anything about that model, but am curious how much it costs compared to the Cisco Pix 500 series. Sounds pretty nice.

list is 3495. You can probably get them for anywhere between 25 and 35 points off list, their security stuff gets bigger discounts for some reason.

A pix 501 is about 795 if I remember correctly with a 10U license. same 25-35 points off list maybe a bit more off list depending on vendor and if you are a school. has most of Cisco's list prices for everything unless you have a vendor account to see real pricing.
